Remember the song – “We Are The World?” – performed by an army
of famous musicians and performers? And their creativity! The year was 1985.
Michael Jackson and Lionel Richie composed the song. Quincy Jones produced the
video recording. The group was called United Support (USA) Artists for Africa.
It became hugely popular. It fostered support for saving children throughout
all of Africa in a time of violence and abuse.
The song came to mean much more than that. We. Are. The.
World.
You and I are the we. Together the ‘we’ can accomplish much.
In the world. In the world we, together, can and do much in every nook and
cranny of the global community. We are not alone. They are not alone in their
needs, either. We serve those in need. Each of us does this. In so many ways
too many to count.
Unity is a wondrous thing. The power and possibility we all
have by acting together. Not separate. Not divided. United. As one.
The song is getting a remake. It is needed. Hope it is as
good as the original. The spirits soared after its release and millions of
airings. The song captured the soul and spirit of unity to fight oppression and
nightmares. We can do that again. The need exists. Even here in America.
We are the world says
it like it is. No government can create or recreate this feeling, this power. It
is we the people who have it. Always did, but we just didn’t use it all the
time. The support and patriotic fervor of the song recognizes the human spirit
that belongs to each of us. It is there to use, feel and create more of it in
others. Together we can do this. And need to. It defines who we are. It is
who we are.
Seems to me the times are right for us to act. The divides
among nations are man-made and manipulated by leaders who need the chaos to
gain power for themselves. This is as true in Russia as it is in China,
Venezuela, or America. Or many other regions of the globe. There are
troublemakers among us who want something for themselves, not the world. They
are seeking power and hegemony over others. It feeds their sense of self;
selfish and power-hungry self. To accomplish it they must take that power from
someone else. And they have designs on you and I. We are the people with the
power. They need it and will do anything to get it.
Witness this in the news. Every day. This is not America
versus Russia, or China, or NATO nations. This is power moguls against the
people of the world for their own gains.
I call them out on it. Hope you will too. After all, this is
our world. Don’t let the selfish boobs steal it away from the peace-loving
world. There has been far too much of that throughout history.
Pay attention to the true motives. Pay attention to the
dividers among us. Do not give them reason to believe they can win at this
horrible game.
Stand up. Understand the issues. Resist power grabs. And vote
with all your heart and mind in every election. And always reach out to others to lend a hand.
That’s how we celebrate the true meaning of the 4th
of July in America. Let this be a beacon of hope for the rest of our world
family.
Together, We Are The World.
