D-Day and Birthdays

June 6th is D-Day – the invasion of the Normandy coast of France to defeat German defenses there – in 1944. 70 years ago today. One of the gutsiest invasions in history, Allied forces amassed 160,000 troops offshore and used 5000 ships and 13,000 aircraft to land the men. 7000 died in the attempt. Many more than that were wounded, seriously wounded. Yet 100,000 troops went on to push German troops back and eventually went on to Berlin to defeat Hitler.

A memory of our times. A mark of historical significance. A personal one for many families; a national memory for everyone alive at the time. Future generations are taught the lesson of this special day. That’s why we remember it so dearly today.

Then too we celebrate anniversaries and birthdays of family and friends at this time of year. And graduations, too!

In our family two birthdays of note.  My ex wife Ann, the mother of our two kids, was born on this special date in 1945. Happy Birthday, Ann.

Then my son’s wife, Eduenis, was born on this date in 1975. A very special shoutout to Eduenis!!

You and Ann share a very special date in history – your own and D-Day. We celebrate all three of these events with gusto. Enjoy your special day.
