If you have to ask about the title, your cultural mythology
is suffering!
Starting a new month can be refreshing. Here we are at the
end of a week – Friday – and the first day of a new month. It is also a time of
year in our culture where hope and smiles abound. Sure, stress is present;
without that we wouldn’t get much done. It is a motivator. But more fun and
pleasantness exist at this time of year than the opposite.
What to do with all of this optimism? Well, create something
of lasting value!
How to do that? Here are 10 ways.
1. Donate
time and talent to a charitable organization. There are 30,000 of them in the
Chicago metro area alone
2. If
you find the need for which no nonprofit agency has been formed, do it
yourself. There’s plenty of help for you to organize your own nonprofit agency
3. Attend
a seasonal, public concert or cultural event. Participate in the season of
celebration and joy
4. Sit
down with a child and talk with them. With them, not to them. Listen to
what they say. Try to see the world from their perspective. Enchanting!
5. Toss
some trash from your home; declutter as much as you can. Usable items should be
donated to charities who can use them
6. Meditate
for 10 minutes each day. Find time for yourself. It’s important. Calm yourself
and think on things you normally don’t have the time to ponder
7. Be
thankful consciously. There is so much we should be grateful for; busy lives
blind us to this basic fact. We have a roof over our head; in most cases a
beautiful roof! We have loved ones surrounding us, and we them. And the food!
Oh the food!
8. Have
you ever wanted to own your own business? Have you seriously considered whether
your idea is bankable? If so, build that small business. Nurture it to fulfill
your passion. Visit www.score.org for free

9. Read
a book. A novel or non-fiction. Either will move your brain to another
dimension that will expand your outlook
10. Plan
an activity that will get you and others out of daily routines. Learn to enjoy
this moment as an adventure to better understand others and yourself.
Not an exhaustive list, but a good start on welcoming a new
month and a fitting end to the year 2017. This can only lead to a good –
better? – 2018.
Rabbit, Rabbit, indeed!
