Hillary and Her Emails

What’s a person to think? Did she or didn’t she commit an egregious error in using a private email server at her home while Secretary of State. And what were the protocols to do so? Who paid for the server? Which payment procedures were implemented – did Hillary pay for the service then file for reimbursement? Or did the server invoice the State Department for services rendered. In paying the expenses were protocols subsumed to have been implemented?

When did State Dept rules/regulations go into effect regarding emails, especially those of the highest ranking personnel? And then how sensitive and strong were those rules/regs?

Seems to me there is a lot of loosey goosey factoids bouncing around. And these are always ripe for making accusations that are not based on truth. Who, in fact, asked the questions and to whom that started this whole email investigation in the first place? Was this a mole in the department dealing in dirty tricks with political intent? Was this a republican party attempt to smear Hillary when she was so busy she didn’t look under her bed in the middle of the night to see what beastie was lurking there?

And why Hillary and no one else in the hierarchy of the Foggy Bottom? The State Department is an old institution with long centuries of protocols and history. Past leaders have been founding fathers of our nation and heroes of subsequent eras when the nation was sorely tested but came out victorious. The Department does not do easy work. It is thrust in the middle of high arguments among sensitive political enemies on the international front. To think we have to also worry about domestic enemies of the political nature making things up is unconscionable to the max.

The FBI is a law enforcement entity. So are other agencies throughout Washington DC. They are always checking for crossed T’s and dotted I’s. Just because the FBI is involved does not mean a crime has been committed. Or even an error, let alone some heinous intended breaking of the law.

When you are working 24/7/365 for the good of the American people, one doesn’t check the shadows for bad people. That’s what other staffers are supposed to do so the chief executive of the department can concentrate on the real details that do matter.

Such a fuss about emails. Let’s face one huge fact: the government does not have the money to modernize its Information Technology platform. It never gets funding requests approved by congress of the opposite party for such things. Rather they force their political enemies to do the hard work with the poorest of tools and information. And then they pounce when the trap they have laid is sprung!

I’m a little frustrated over all of this hoohaw about emails and IT problems in all of the agencies. Seems to me we should fix what is broken and train the staff in the basics. And then the protocols that govern use of these resources. Privacy and protection of state secrets is the aim of such protocols. But the work must go on with or without the tools at hand. When does that fact get weighed in the matter?

And then consider the enemies. Mr. Trump is certainly one. So is Bernie. So are all the republicans in Washington.

If the spoils of political victory ( whichever campaign you identify, and whichever pols are involved ) is worth all of this crap, then focus on this: What will our nation and our allies do if Mr. Trump is inaugurated next January? Huh? A man who doesn’t know his history, public policy, finances, or government structure? A man who will quite possibly take us to war over hurt feelings and public misconceptions? A misreading of history perhaps? Or what?

Every person I speak with on current political affairs abhors the thought of Trump in the White House. If that is so, why are his polls saying he has the backing of the American people? Who are his supporters? Are they real or imaginary. Are they speaking with full understanding of their statements and how they fit with the facts of history? Do they?

Or is the media feeding this as a popularity game? “You won’t believe what Trump said about…” tee hee hee.

Only I’m not laughing. This is serious business. The future of our nation rests on sound leadership and reliable judgment.

I trust Hillary. I don’t believe she has broken any laws or intentionally broken international protocols. I do not believe the purity and loyalty of republican politicians. They are too self serving of their own encampment and ideology to be trusted in giving an accurate report on the work of others, especially when it is one of their avowed enemies.

Why the Republicans have such a hard-on over Hillary and Bill I will never understand. And how they can now willy-nilly support Trump is a matter of pure folly.

Mr. Trump has not earned his credentials in the business world. Nor has he ever earned creds in the government world. Why on earth would anyone trust him? Why would his self serving egotistical self congratulatory behavior be rewarded with a leadership position?

Sane and sensible people everywhere are shaking their heads. Me too!
