Do what you love. Steve Jobs made this statement:
“Your work is going to fill a
large part of your life, and the only way to be truly satisfied is to do what
you believe is great work. And the only way to do great work is to love what
you do. If you haven’t found it yet, keep looking. Don’t settle. As with all
matters of the heart, you’ll know when you find it.”
This has been true for me most of my life. And my family
members, too. If one of us becomes unhappy at our jobs it usually happens when
we have fallen out of love for our job. Or it with us!
Working with young people I sense their frustration. They
look for what they like to do. They hope to get paid for doing it. They pull
satisfaction from that activity. It helps identify who they are. And their
worth. Searching is often lonely. Boring. Unfruitful.
Do not give up the search. You will find your promise with
time. Just remember to be true to yourself. Seek and you shall find. Give up
the search and you will never find it.
