Church and State
I've written on separation of Church and State before.
Several times in fact. But today I share this ‘did you know’ factoid:
John Quincy Adams
was sworn in using a book of laws instead of the Bible because he wanted to
maintain the separation of church and state.”
Bravo! Think about that.
Separating church and state matters is not hard to do.
Evidently it takes courage that most public officials don’t have.
Keeping church and state separated does not mean you or I
are not religious. It does not mean we are disrespectful to either.
It just means that they are best lived apart and that we
discipline our minds and hearts accordingly.
Else we get the horror of the witch hunts, The Crusades, or terrorism in
the name of Allah!
Care must be taken. Thoughtfulness, too.
