One shoe dropped, then a second, and a third. That gets the
parade of intended indictments started. Not a flood of action, but a good
start. More will undoubtedly follow. That is the nature of these things.
Careful planning on the part of Special Prosecutor Robert S.
Mueller. He is a master at this sort of thing. It is why he has had a long and
successful career in the judicial system and in the FBI. He is reliable,
steadfast and detail oriented. Also process oriented. The latter is important.
The US justice system is an ocean of process; it is the mechanism that
maintains order in a complicated mass of details and layered authority levels.
Knowing how it all works is critical to maintaining control over a prosecutor’s case.
Mueller knows this. He is experienced at it. And a lover of chess to add
layered logic skills.
White House deflections do not attack the central validity
of the indictments. They know little of the game plan or the players. Too early
to know any of this. Watch their reactions over the coming weeks and months as
the cast of characters involved in the prosecution’s case expands to its full
logic and temper. That’s when you and I will know the scope of this case. And
too, the White House. Patience is needed presently. Time will witness much of
what we think and project. Let it play out as intended by Mueller. It will all
become clear.
The Watergate fiasco began with a failed burglary of a
political opponent’s office. Dirty tricks were the motivation and venal at
that. But look where it ended – the resignation of a sitting president.
Our nation has morals and principles upon which it lives and
prospers. Our nation was built on those same morals and principles. They are
the bedrock of our system of governance and judicial processes. Lapses of
morals, ethics and law happen all the time. Catching them and pursuing the
perpetrators is a tedious and time-consuming task. But those tasks redeem our
social order for it to proceed on the moral keel needed to survive and prosper
far into the future.
Shortcuts usually are not worth the effort. Mr. trump and
his supporters will learn this soon enough. The rest of us as well. Patience.
Patience. We do not know enough yet to draw conclusions. We have our theories
and desired outcomes, but we cannot project them accurately at this point.
We have much to witness as the process accumulates more
people and facts to build a case that holds water. And brings justice to the
masses. Whatever ‘side’ wins will be a matter to debate many months in the
future.
