Day 41

In Illinois we have been sheltered in place for 41 days. We note changing traffic patterns, weather fronts, seasons, and dawns and dusks. We see neighbors walking their dogs. Two stores front our building's street front – one health drinks and shakes, the other cell phone goods and services. Public still visit the two stores, more so the health drinks than the phones, but still a steady flow of customers.

Landscaping crew visits weekly to tend to the plantings and lawn. They rake and leaf blow debris. We have transitioned from winter plantings to spring. They keep us neat and trim the year round.

Garbage hauler visits frequently. More so than before. Sometimes three days per day. I’m thinking we have 24-hour residents now and our trash bins fill quicker. Recycling containers fill quickly, too. So the hauler visits frequently to keep us neat and tidy.

During this period snow and ice have visited. The landscaper cleared our driveway, parking lot and sidewalks. Snowmelt was fast. Soon the lawns greened and daffodils and tulips popped their beautiful heads.

Last night’s supper was a New York Pastrami sandwich on rye with mustard. Yum! Hadn’t had one for nearly a year. Rocky had their massive burger with cheese. Tonight will be something else, perhaps a frozen entrĂ© from the freezer?

We get by with memory foods to break the monotony. Thursday’s are Taco nights. Fridays may be a supper take out from a regular restaurant with curbside pickup. We do cook, too. The other night we had a pork tenderloin. Chicken is a favorite, as well.

The car gets driven 30 or 40 miles a week. Just short trips to the drug store for meds, grocery store for a few things, and takeout pickups. That’s it. The gas tank is full and should last another month at this rate, maybe two!

Routines remain internet, SCORE volunteer work from home, naps and TV binge viewing. Well, some of that is an enticement for the naps.

Eight hours of sleep per night plus naps. Not bad.

Finally! I feel retired as I ought.
